Wow, they sold fast! This morning, Amazon had a lightning deal on Kindle 2nd generation. I clicked "add the cart" the second they became available at 9am PST today.... and nada! All were swiped into checkouts, effectively leaving many of us on a wait list, and many waiting to get on the wait list. Within 25 minutes, the sold out message came up.
There are a load of angry people on the Kindle facebook pages. I don't know why they are angry... disappointed, yes. But angry?? Do they get mad when Target runs out of a product? Do they threaten to buy an inferior alternative just to get even? To cancel all orders? Seems crazy to me. Especially when I think the $139 K3 wi-fi deal is pretty awesome!
So, back to my plan... I had planned to buy ME the Kindle 3G and give daughter my old k2 plus a gift card to buy ebooks. I decided instead that I am happy with my K2 and will buy her a brand new k3 wi-fi instead. In fact, I just did. She'll be on my account and so will have access to all my ebooks anyway.
So, did you get one at the bargain sale price? Did you wait in for hours to click?

Highest Kindle Sales Day Ever!
According to Amazon's Kindle facebook page, Tuesday saw the biggest sales day ever for Kindles
! Apparently the new price, all the TV ads and WiFi is really working well! So much for the iPad
being the death of the Kindle, as predicted earlier in the year.
Given the rush on orders, I AM finally ordering my K3, with 3G and WiFi. I like the 3G on my K2 too much to give it up. My husband gave me the green light to get one 6 weeks ago for my birthday, but I've delayed because I couldn't decide which cover to buy for my new one... stick with the lovely M-Edge that I have; go with the Oberon cover that I've drooled over many times; or get the new ones from Amazon with the built in light (currently on sale).
I decided the cover can wait.... I don't want to risk them selling out, as they have several times before, so I am buying now and shopping for my cover later!

No Kindle Required
If you know someone with a love of books, but no Kindle, you can still send them the gift of a Kindle book! If they have an email address and a pc or mac, iPad, iPod touch, iPhone, Blackberry or Android phone then they can get a free Kindle application and read Kindle books! No Kindle required
And Amazon have finally introduced Kindle book gifting! In the past you could only send them a gift card but now you can send them a Kindle book.
From the book page on Amazon, beneath the BUY button is a GIFT button. Click Give as a Gift, and you will be taken to a gifting page. Enter the recipients email address and a message. Note that you can send it to any email address; you don't need to know their amazon account address. They receive the email message in their inbox, letting them know they have a gift. They follow a link and then log into their Amazon account to send the book to their Kindle.
Very easy, the whole process takes seconds for the giver and the receiver.
