Kindle Tip: Budgeting Kindle books/ shared accounts

If you download paid books, that 1 click button can be addictive and that makes it hard to budget! Remove credit cards from your amazon account and each month, buy yourself an amazon gift card. Once you've used it up, you can't spend until the next month.
This always works well if you share an account with someone. If you both contribute a gift card, no-one is worried about an over the top credit card bill!

(Note, without a card on file then you need at least a penny balance to get free books).

  1. Got a question, if you please! About the Paperwhite, since my wife and I plan to replace our older models. She's a Spanish prof, and would like to install a Spanish dictionary that would work just like the English dictionary. Surely they make these for Latin America, but what about as an option for English-using Kindles? Can that be done? Thanks! ///////////(Distant Cousin) Al

  2. Hi Al, how are you? Good to hear from you!

You can change the default dictionary back and forth, after downloading new ones to the Kindle. For the Paperwhite: Menu > Settings > Device Options > Language and Dictionaries > Dictionaries and set each one that you want to use as a default.

One the issues falls on how the book is coded. Even a book written in Spanish, if coded in English, may only show the English dictionary, but I hope that's the exception not the norm.

I did a search though and the problem I find is the dictionaries are translation dictionaries rather than standard vocabulary dictionaries, which is what I think you want. I will keep an eye out for one.

  3. Very helpful, and thanks. I'll pass that to la esposita. She has a number of standard Spanish dictionaries, but we know of none for the Kindle (yet?).

I'm fine! I'm about to finish the sixth Distant Cousin novel. The twins are 17 now, and are seeming to take over the story from their mother.

    I hope YOU are well!

  4. I haven't seen a good one for Kindle yet either, Seems strange not to have one.

All the best with the book! Let me know when published. I will miss Ana!
