**Critical Kindle Updates** 3/22/16

Amazon recently announced critical updates to wireless connectivity for older Kindle e-Readers. This does not apply to newer (2013+) Kindles or Kindle Fires.

For those of you with older Kindles, I have received multiple messages seeking some assistance. Note that if you did not get this done in time, 1) your kindle may have already updated last time you synced, 2) you can still do it manually if you are no longer able to connect to the internet. Instructions at the link:

Which version do you need
From Home, press the Menu button, and then select Settings. You will see the current software version at the bottom of the screen.

Kindle 1st Generation (2007) 1.2.1
Kindle 2nd Generation (2009) * 2.5.8
Kindle DX 2nd Generation (2009) * 2.5.8
Kindle Keyboard 3rd Generation (2010) ** 3.4.2 or higher
Kindle 4th Generation (2011) 4.1.3 or higher
Kindle 5th Generation (2012) 4.1.3 or higher
Kindle Touch 4th Generation (2011) ** 5.3.7.3 or higher
Kindle Paperwhite 5th Generation (2012) ** 5.6.1.1 or higher

All other Kindles are newer and are ok!

Though the deadline is here, I would still attempt a wireless update. Plug in your Kindle. Turn on Wifi and leave it for a few hours.Turn it back on & check for updates.

If your kindle receives this message, you might need to manually install the update: "Your Kindle is unable to connect at this time. Please make sure you are within wireless range and try again. If the problem persists, please restart your Kindle from the Menu in Settings and try again."

Manual Updates: Visit the relevant page for your kindle for further instructions
