9. Which do you prefer kindle or paper books?

If I had to chose, I’d go for paperbacks. But I read from both and equally enjoy the experience.

10. Did you ever consider self publishing? Do you think this a good or bad thing for the future of books.

I started off self-published! Beyond Grace’s Rainbow, was self published in 2012 as an ebook only. It was a bestseller on Amazon, Kobo, iBooks. Scariest and most fun time ever. Thankfully for me, my success got me noticed with an agent and in turn, with my publisher. Harper Collins republished Beyond Grace’s Rainbow and since then I’ve had two further books out with a contract for a further two. So, for me it was the right thing to do. Personally speaking, I think there is room for both.
However, if you do self-publish, do it well. Make sure that your book, the cover, the edits, the story, are as professional and as good as any traditionally published books. If not you’ll get lost in the gazillions of self pubbed books that are out there.

11. For someone who has not read your books before, how would you describe your
writing style?

A reader described me as the Queen of Emotional writing and I liked that description. I definitely write from the heart. But I promise that as well as making you reach for the kleenex, I will make you smile and laugh too. My editor says that I have a conversational tone, so my writing connects to readers immediately. I hope you all agree!
I have been compared to Jodi Picoult, Jojo Moyes, Maeve Binchy by readers. In fact one reader said that if Maeve Binchy and Marian Keyes had a love child, it would be Carmel Harrington. That made me smile and feel very honoured all at the same time.

12. Do you have any new books in the pipeline?

I’m working re-writes for my fourth novel, The Road Back Home, which is a story about the Guinness family, who spend a summer travelling around Europe in a campervan! Each of them, Mum, Dad, teenage daughter and young son, all struggling with life and each other. This trip is forcing them to examine their life together, themselves and ultimately discover if they can find their way back home - together. This will be out in trade paperback in Ireland on 30th June 2015.

13. Where is the best place for readers to find out more about you?

You can find me on twitter @HappyMrsH, or facebook.com/happymrsh or my website, www.carmelharrington.com

14. Surprise us with something we don't know about you?

I once partied on a private jet owned by U2. And not that I’m name dropping, but the lads might have been there at the time. Oh, the joys of a misspent youth!

15. and very importantly..... which do you prefer tea or coffee?
Ah here, what an impossible question to answer. I drink both, by the gallon!
Gun to head …. I’d probably pick …. I can’t do it, I can’t answer!
