9. What advice would you give aspiring writers?

Keep at it. It’s hard in the face of rejection, but if you want to be a writer, you’ll find the time, the strength and the courage.

10.What are you reading right now?
The Girl in the Ice, Rob Bryndza

11.Which do you prefer kindle or paper books?
I like to switch. I tend to load my own books onto the kindle to read back, and I love it for travel. But I do like to dive into a print edition too, so I buy lots of paperbacks.
I also get a lot of paperback proofs sent to me so I read those, plus I am auto approved on Netgalley for lots of the publishers because I’m asked for quotes for new books.

12.Would you recommend self-publishing? What made you decide to go down this route?
I went down the self-publishing route after trying twelve years to get a traditional deal. It was what I’ve always wanted. So I self-published to try and get some readers behind me and then go for a traditional deal, which I did.
I would recommend that a writer does what they want to do, rather than what they feel they should do. Some writers prefer to go for an agent, some direct to a publisher and some self-publish. There is no right or wrong way – just do whatever you feel comfortable with.

13. For someone who has not read your books before, how would you describe your writing style?
It’s dark, gritty and emotional. I’m not afraid to take you into the mind of anyone nasty but, equally, I like to show good and bad sides to everyone.

14. Do you have any new books in the pipeline?
Yes, but I’m unable to talk about them at the moment…

15. Where is the best place for readers to find out more about you?
I have a website at www.melsherratt.co.uk and I love chatting to readers on * Facebook and * Twitter. I think I ‘met’ you on Facebook.

16. Surprise us with something we don't know about you.
I’m afraid of the dark…

17. And very importantly..... which do you prefer tea or coffee?
Coffee, without a doubt.
